France, on a case-Fillon: 5 years at the former prime minister for the misappropriation of public funds

After several months of process,the court of Paris has sentenced the ex-prime minister Francois Fillon and his wife Penelope for the misappropriation of public funds.

The former premier, who pulled out of the presidential race in 2017 overwhelmed by accusations of having paid his wife as an assistant, besides the two sons, was sentenced to 5 years imprisonment, 3 of which with the conditional. Must scontarne 2.

The wife, is accused of having perceived a salary which is ‘disproportionate’ to the work he was doing, was sentenced to 3 years ‘ probation.

In a long declaration in the presence of the judges, Fillon had given his “disagreement on the method” put in place by the magistrates on the timing of the survey (emerged in full campaign) and he had added: “Yes, I took my wife and the reality of his work is undeniable. This fact has been confirmed in detail by several people who have worked at his side for years.”
