Safe driving, save moneymeasure tire pressure on the car: what many drivers do wrongreifendruck measure: at the filling station the value can be quickly corrected. (Source: blickwinkel/imago images)the right tyre pressure on the car: it is vital to survive – and also saves them a lot of money. Which pressure is the right one, how often they should measure it and how they proceed.

The only connection between car and road are the mature. Whether full-gas or full-braking – their safety in the car depends very much on the condition of the tires and this also includes the correct air pressure. They measure the tire pressure best at a tank, because here they find everything they need.

They measure at the coldest possible tire and not after a long journey – the tire would then be warm, and thereby they would measure a falsified pressure. First they screw off the valve cap, then they set up the measuring device. Now the measuring device displays its tire pressure, which they can also correct in the same way.

Press on plus to increase the pressure and vice versa to minus. More recent devices can be used to adjust the desired tire pressure directly. Important: they always control the pressure on all four tires, because the pressure does not deviate from all tires evenly.

The same pressure on both tires of an axle is important, however, so that the car drives and brakes safely. Frequently, manufacturers indicate a slightly different tire pressure for the front and rear axle. Many car drivers measure tire pressure only occasionally, for example before major holiday trips.

Of the verkehrclub, recommends to measure the tire pressure all two weeks during the refueling and to correct it if necessary. Besides the safety risk, a false tire pressure has to follow further negative:the tire wears faster, an excessively low air pressure thus shortens its lifetime. The braking path is extended, the driving properties of the car are deteriorated – in particular in curves.

In general: better a little more tire pressure than too little. Although too much tire pressure can reduce the driving comfort: unevenness in the tram will be passed on to the traveling. Expertly say: a tire pressure increased by 0.2 to 0.3 bar is unproblematic – quite in contrast to too low a tire pressure.
