Trains, the impact of the pandemic on railway traffic in 2020

Between this, schools and universities in dad and the impossibility to move if not for reasons of work, there is no wonder that railway traffic has reduced. Eurostat has just updated the data with those relating to the last quarter of 2020, a condition that has allowed to instill the infographic that opens this piece. And that unequivocally shows the collapse of the passengers of the trains throughout Europe.

In the same period, Italian trains saw 77% less than the previous year. It is not only air traffic that has suffered the consequences of the lockdowns promoted by European governments. The railway, as well as the automobile, has suffered a contraction due to the fact that people have been prevented from travelling.

A contraction that, after the first wave, continued throughout 2020, even in those summer months that saw the loosening of the containment measures of the pandemic.
